FIRST JOHN CHAPTER ONE
1 That which was from the start, which we have heard,
Which we have seen with our own eyes; 2 which we
Have looked at and have handled with our hands–
This we proclaim about the word of life:
The life appeared, and we have seen and we
Testify to it; 3 we proclaim to you
The timeless life, which had been with the Father,
And has appeared to us: What we have seen
And heard we tell you, so that you too may
Have fellowship with us; our fellowship
Indeed is with the Father and his Son
Jesus Christ, 4 and we write these things to you
So that your happiness may be complete.
This is the message we have heard from him,
5 And we declare to you, that God is light,
And in him is no darkness. 6 If we claim
That we have fellowship with him, and walk
In darkness, we are lying and do not
Practice the truth, 7 but if we walk in light
As he’s in light, then we have fellowship
With one another, and the blood of Christ
Jesus his Son has cleansed us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we have
Deceived ourselves, and truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he’s faithful and
Just to forgive our sins, and cleanse us from
Every unrighteousness, 10 but if we claim
We have not sinned, we’re saying that he lies,
And so his word no longer makes us wise.
