You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
~Leviticus 18:22

EXODUS CHAPTER SIX

1 The LORD God said to Moses: “Soon you’ll see

What I’ll do to the king. Due to my power,

He’ll let my people go; he’ll even chase

Them from his country. 2 My name is the LORD.

3 But when I showed myself to Abraham,

Isaac, and Jacob, I was God Almighty

To them−I did not use my name. 4 I made

A covenant and promised them the land

Of Canaan, where they lived as foreigners.

5 I’ve seen how Israelites are suffering

Because of the Egyptians, and I’ll keep

My promise, 6 and here is my message for

Israel: ‘I’m the LORD! With my great power

I’ll punish the Egyptians and free you

From slavery. 7 I will accept you as

My people, and I’ll be your God, then you

Will know I was the one who rescued you

From the Egyptians, 8 and I’ll bring you to

The land I solemnly did promise to

Abraham and to Isaac and to Jacob,

And it will be yours. I’m the LORD!’” 9 When Moses

Told Israelites this, they were too discouraged

And shook up to believe him. 10 Then the LORD

Told Moses 11 to demand that Egypt’s king

Permit the Israelites to leave, 12 but Moses

Replied, “I’m not a mighty speaker. If

The Israelites won’t hear me out, why should

The king of Egypt?” 13 But the LORD sent Aaron

And Moses with some words for Israelites

And for the king; he also ordered Aaron

And Moses to free Egypt’s people. 14 These

Were heads of their ancestral clans: The sons

Of Reuben, Jacob’s oldest son, were Hanoch,

Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi, 15 and the sons

Of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin,

Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, son of

A woman Canaanite. 16 Now Levi lived

To be one hundred thirty‑seven; and

His sons were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

17 Now Gershon’s sons were Libni and Shimei,

18 And Kohath lived to be one hundred thirty‑

Three, and his sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron,

And Uzziel. 19 Merari’s sons were Mahli

And Mushi. All these men were Levites. 20 Amram

Lived >til he was one hundred thirty‑seven.

He married Jochebed, his father’s sister,

And they had two sons: Aaron, Moses. 21 Izhar’s

Sons were named Korah, Nepheg, Zichri, 22 and

Uzziel’s sons were Mishael, Elzaphan,

And Sithri. 23 Aaron married Elisheba,

Who was the daughter of Amminadab

And Nahshon’s sister; they had four sons, Nadab,

Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

24 Korah’s sons were named Assir, Elkanah,

And Abiasaph. 25 Aaron’s son Eleazar

Did marry one of Putiel’s daughters, and

Their son was Phinehas. This ends the list

Of those who were the heads of clans inside

The Levi tribe. 26 The LORD had ordered Aaron

And Moses to lead every family

And tribe of Israel from Egypt, 27 and

So they commanded Egypt’s king to set

Israel’s people free. 28 When the LORD spoke

To Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 he

Said, “I’m the LORD. Tell Egypt’s king all that

I say to you,” 30 but Moses answered, “You

Know that I’m a poor speaker and the king,

When I speak to him, will not hear a thing.”
