Poems from First Corinthians

(1 Cor. 1:27)

Weak Things

God chose weak things

To shame the strong;

From ashes he

Can make a song.

Therefore, as it is written:”Let the one

who boasts boast in the Lord.”

~1 Cor. 1:31

Of Him I Boast

The Father sent

The Holy Ghost

To teach all things—

Of Him I boast.

(1 Cor. 2:2)

Christ Crucified

Christ, crucified

For you and me:

I’ll give him praise

Eternally.

(1 Cor. 1:23, 2:2)

Christ Crucified

I preach but this:

Christ crucified;

He healed and taught

And for us died.

We have the mind of Christ.

~1 Corinthians 2:16

The Mind of Christ

We have the mind

Of Christ, which means

We have more light

Than kings or queens.

(1 Cor. 3:2)

You Weren’t Prepared

With milk I fed

You, not with meat,

For meat you weren’t

Prepared to eat.

(1 Cor. 3:2, 13-15)

To Withstand Heat

With milk I fed

You, not with meat,

The work you make

Must withstand heat.

Their work will be shown for what it is,

because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed

with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.

~1 Cor. 3:13

(1 Cor. 3:10-15)

The Fire

As sweat pours down,

Of God inquire:

“Will my life’s work

Withstand the fire?”

(1 Cor. 4:10)

A Fool for Christ

I’d rather be

A fool for Christ

Than “wisely” walk

In sinful vice.

(1 Corinthians 9:22)

Common Ground

I try to find

A common ground

With everyone,

That Christ be crowned.

(1 Cor. 12, Proverbs 4:23)

Parts

Each body part

Needs other parts,

But most of all

Protect your heart.

(1 Cor. 13:8)

Love Never Fails

The grass will fade

And friends will bail,

But God is Love,

Which never fails.

(1 Cor. 13:11)

As You Love God

As you love God

With heart and mind,

Leave childish things

And thoughts behind.

(1 Cor. 14:1)

Desire the Gifts

Desire the gifts

That God bestows,

With sharing love

Your highest goal.

(1 Cor. 15:4)

The Son of God

The Son of God

Came down to men,

Was crucified,

And rose again.

(1 Cor. 15:12-19)

If Christ is Dead

If Christ is dead

And was not raised,

What cause have we

To give God praise?

(1 Cor. 15:55)

O Death

O Death, where is

Your victory?

Where is your sting?

His blood makes clean.

(1 Cor. 15:55, 2 Pet. 1:11)

For Those with Faith

For those with faith

Death has no sting,

For Death leads to

A welcoming.

(1 Cor. 15:58)
Know This

Know this, despite

The cares and pain:

Your work for God

Is not in vain.

(1 Cor. 16:13, 20, 2 Tim. 4:2,

1 Thess. 5:26)

Greet Brothers

Greet brothers with

A holy kiss;

Stand firm in faith

And love; persist.

(1 Cor. 16:13-15)

Be on Your Guard

Be on your guard,

Stand firm in faith,

Be brave, be strong,

And serve the saints.

(1 Cor. 16:17-18)

What You Had Lacked

What you had lacked,

Three men supplied:

Men like that should

Be recognized.Light of Day cover light rays b

God Bless America

God Bless America Lyrics
by Irving Berlin

God bless America,
Land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a light from above;

From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.

Preface to Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed. . . . No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people.
