1 Foolish Galatians! Who’s bewitched you? In

Front of your eyes, Christ Jesus was portrayed

As crucified. 2 I’d like to learn one thing

From you: Did you receive the Spirit by

The works of law, or by believing what

You heard? 3 Are you so idiotic? You

Have started with the Spirit− are you now

Trying to gain your goal by work and sweat?

4 You’ve suffered greatly for the Gospel− was

It all for nothing? 5 Does the Lord provide

You with his Spirit and work miracles

Among you due to your observance of

The law, or due to your belief in what

You heard? 6 Thus Abraham put faith in God,

And it was credited as righteousness

To him.” 7 From this you see that Abraham’s

Children are those who put their faith in God.

8 The Scripture, looking forward, saw that God

Would justify the Gentiles by their faith.

The Lord told Abraham about this long

Ago when he said, “All the nations will

Be blessed through you.” 9 So those with faith are blessed

Along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 All who rely on following the law

Are underneath the curse of God, for it

Is written: “Cursed is everyone who does

Not keep on doing all that’s written in

The Book of Law.” 11 It’s evident that no

One’s justified before the Lord by law,

Because, “The just will live by faith.” 12 The law’s

Not based on faith; for on the contrary,

“The man who does these things will live by them.”

13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of law,

Being a curse on our behalf, for it

Is written: “Cursed is everyone who is

Hung on a tree,” 14 and he redeemed us so

The blessing given Abraham might reach

The Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so by faith

We might receive the Spirit’s promise. 15 Dear

Brothers, in daily life a promise made

By one man to another, if it is

Written and signed, cannot be altered. That

Principle holds true in the present case.

16 The promises were told to Abraham

And to his seed. The Scripture does not say

“To seeds,” to stand for many people, but

“And to your seed,” which means one person, who

Is Christ. 17 Here’s what I mean: Four hundred thirty

Years later, when the law was introduced,

It did not set aside the covenant

Which God had made and thus annul the promise.

18 Because if the inheritance depends

On law, then it does not depend upon

A promise any longer; but God gave

It unto Abraham by promise. 19 What,

Then, was the purpose of the law? It was

Added due to transgressions ‘til the Seed

Had come to whom the promise had referred.

Through angels by a mediator, God

Ordained the law. 20 A mediator, though,

Implies that there is more than one; but God

Is one. 21 So is the law opposed to God’s

Promises? Absolutely not! For if

A law was given that imparted life,

Then law should have provided righteousness.

22 But Scripture says that all are under sin,

So that the promise, given by our faith

In Jesus Christ, might be committed to

Those who believe. 23 Before this faith arrived,

We were imprisoned by the law, locked up

Until our faith was afterwards revealed.

24 Therefore the law became our schoolmaster

To show the way to Christ, so that we might

Be justified by faith− 25 but now that faith

Has come, we are no longer under law,

Our schoolmaster. 26 You’re all the sons of God

Through faith in Jesus Christ, 27 for all of you

Baptized in Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

28 There’s neither Jew nor Greek, nor slave nor free,

Nor male nor female, for you are all one

In Jesus Christ. 29 If you belong to Christ,

Then you’re the seed of Abraham, and heirs

According to the promise God has shared.
