1 But mark this: There will be horrendous times
In the last days, for people will love only
Themselves and love their money; 2 they’ll be proud

And boastful, troublemakers, disobedient
As to their parents, unappreciative,
Unholy, 3 loveless, unforgiving, sneering,

Having no self-control, harsh, thoroughly
Bad, 4 treacherous and rash, conceited, lovers
Of pleasure rather than of God– 5 they will

Look like they’re godly but they will deny
God’s power. Don’t have anything to do
With them, 6 for they’re the kind who worm their way

Into some homes and gain control of weak-
Willed women, who are loaded down with sins
And swayed by every wrong desire, 7 who ever

Learn but who never understand the truth.
8 Jannes and Jambres fought with Moses; so
Too do these men oppose the truth–these men

Of lowly minds, who are rejected by
The faith, 9 and who will not get very far
Because their folly will be clear to all.

10 You, though, know all about my teaching and
My way of life, my purpose, faith and patience,
My love, endurance, 11 persecutions and

Sufferings–all the kinds of things that happened
To me in Antioch, Iconium
And Lystra, persecutions I endured,

But God delivered me from all of them.
12 Yes, those who want to live a godly life
In Jesus Christ will suffer at the hands

Of those who hate him, 13 while bad men and false
Teachers will go from bad to worse, deceiving
And being tricked themselves; 14 but as for you,

Continue in what you have learned and what
You know is true, because you the ones
You learned it from, 15 and how from infancy

You’ve known the holy Scriptures, which are able
To make you wise for your salvation through
Faith in Christ Jesus. 16 Every Scripture is

God-breathed and good to teach, rebuke, correct,
And train in righteousness, 17 so that the man
Of God may be prepared with perfect vision

And be equipped to work for everyone.
