Doubting Thomas

(John 20:24-29)

Doubting Thomas

Thomas, put your

Hand in my side:

You’ll see that Death

Itself has died.

He Has Risen

1 Quite early in the morning, on the first

              Day of the week, the women took the spices

              They had prepared and went off to the tomb.

2 They found the boulder had been rolled out from

              The tomb, 3 but when they went in, they found out

              The body of Lord Jesus was not there.

Resurrection of Christ, and the Women at the Tomb by Fra Angelico

4 While they were wondering about this, two

Men wearing clothes that gleamed like lightning stood

              Immediately beside them. 5 In their fright

The women went and prostrated themselves

              Before them, but the men told them, “Why do

              You seek the living in a tomb? 6 He’s not Here; he has risen!

1 Beautiful priestly garments were made of

Blue, purple, and red wool for Aaron to

Put on when he performed his duties in

The holy place, and this was done precisely

As God told Moses. 2 The whole priestly vest

 Was made out of fine linen, woven with

Blue, purple, and red wool. 3 Thin sheets of gold

Were hammered out and cut to threads that were

Woven with skill into the vest. 4 It had

Two shoulder straps to hold it up and had

A sash that was affixed around the waist.

5 Some onyx stones were placed in some gold settings.

6 The name of one of Israel’s sons was

Engraved on them. 7 These were attached then to

The shoulder straps upon the vest, so that

God never would forget his people. All

Was done exactly as the LORD told Moses.

8  The breastpiece was constructed with the same

Designs and fabric as the priestly vest.

9  It was nine inches square and folded double

10  With four rows of three precious stones. The first

Row had an emerald, a carnelian, and

A chrysolite, and in the second row

11 A turquoise and a sapphire and a diamond;

12 And in the third row were an amethyst,

A jacinth and an agate; 13 and a beryl,

An onyx, and a jasper were inside

The fourth row, and each one was mounted in

A delicate gold setting, 14 with a name

Of one of the twelve tribes of Israel

Engraved on each of them. 15‑18 Two gold rings were

Attached to corners of the breastpiece on

Upper front corners and were fastened with

Two braided gold chains to gold settings on

The shoulder straps. 19 Two other gold rings were

Attached to lower inside corners by

The vest, 20 and two more near the bottom of

The shoulder straps above the sash. 21 To keep

The breastpiece in its place, a blue cord was

Employed to tie two lower rings upon

The breastpiece to the rings upon the vest.

These things were done exactly as the LORD

Commanded Moses. 22 Now the priestly robe,

Sewn from blue wool, 23 did have an opening

Within the center for the head. Around

The collar the material was bound

            So as to keep it from unraveling.

24‑26 Along the hem were woven pomegranates

Made of blue, purple, and red wool. Between

The pomegranates were pure golden bells.

When he performed his duties, Aaron wore

This robe, 27‑29 and all that Aaron and his sons

Wore was made of fine linen woven with

Blue, purple, and red wool, including their

Robes, turbans, fancy caps and underwear:

Even their sashes that were needlework-

Embroidered. 30 “Dedicated to the LORD”

Was then engraved upon a narrow strip

Of purest gold 31 affixed to Aaron’s turban.

 These things were done exactly as the LORD

Commanded Moses, 32 so the Israelites

Completed everything the LORD had told

Moses to make, 33 then they brought Moses all

Of it: The sacred tent and its equipment,

Including framework, hooks, and crossbars, posts

And stands; 34 the covering of tanned ram skins

And finest leather and the inside curtain;

35 The sacred chest with poles to carry it,

The mercy seat; 36 the table with all that

Goes onto it, including sacred bread;

37 The pure gold lampstand, together with its oil and its

Equipment; 38 the gold‑covered incense altar;

The ordination oil and fragrant incense;

The curtain for the entrance to the tent;

39 And the bronze altar for the sacrifices

With its bronze grating and the carry poles,

And its equipment; the large bronze bowl with

Its stand; 40 the curtain with its posts and cords,

And pegs and stands that go around the courtyard;

Everything needed for the sacred tent;

41And the fine-woven priestly clothes for Aaron

And his sons. 42‑43Now when Moses saw the people

Had done the work exactly as the LORD

Commanded, that is what he blessed them for.
