Abraham Lincoln’s Common Sense

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
–Abraham Lincoln

JOSHUA CHAPTER TWELVE

JOSHUA CHAPTER TWELVE

1 Here is a list of kings whose lands were on

The east side of the Jordan River whom

The Israelites defeated and whose lands

They conquered, from the Arnon river gorge

Out to Mount Hermon, and including all

The eastern desert cities: 2 Sihon king

Of Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. His

Rule stretched from Aroer upon the rim

Of Arnon’s river gorge, from halfway in

The gorge on to the Jabbok River, which

Sets up the border with the Ammonites,

That is, one-half of Gilead, which lies

North of the Jabbok River. 3 Sihon ruled

            Also above the eastern Arabah

Out from the Sea of Kinneroth on to

The Sea of Arabah (the Salt Sea), to

            Beth Jeshimoth, then southward to

Over Mount Hermon, Salecah, and all

Of Bashan to the boundaries shared with

            The Geshurites and the Maachathites,

Of Heshbon’s border. 6 Moses, servant of

The LORD God, and the Israelites, destroyed

These people. Moses, servant of the LORD,

Conferred their land upon the Reubenites,

            The Gadites and Manasseh’s half-tribe. 7 Here’s

A list of kings destroyed by Joshua and

The army of the Israelites out on

The Jordan’s western side. (This land which lay

From Baal-gad within the river land
